Kogi Governorship Race: Group advocates power shift to Kogi West for equity, fairness sake
The Distinguished Senator Smart Adeyemi , DSSA Group in kogi state has said that for the sake of fairness, justice and equity, power should necessarily shift to kogi West senatorial district of the state.
The Group spokesman, Dr Abdusalam Bawa who spoke on behalf of the group during a road walk Lokoja on Thursday said that there was a need for fairness in the state since the other two Senatorial Districts, East and Central have been governor at one point or the other.
He said, “It’s only fair and just to allow the West which had not tasted it before be allowed to produce the next Governor and we as a group strongly recommend Senator Smart Adeyemi who had demo strated unparalleled competence and ability as our representative in the Senate for the past decade.”
Bawa noted that marginalisation and widespread poverty had become the loudest cry among the people in kogi west adding that Senator Adeyemi was the most qualified to occupy the position.
According to him, one of the pathways to ending the pervasive marginalization and mutual suspicion in the state was for fairness to reign, especially in the leadership of the state.
He said, “ Since creation of kogi state, kogi west from day one, have been marginalised. It has been Kogi East and the central, but kogi state was formed to accommodate the three major tribes, and minority ethnic groups, But as far as the state progress is concerned, you cannot rule out the people of Kogi west. However, these are the same people that are being marginalised.
According to him, “Any state that is not carrying along those who equally agitated for the creation of the state will not make real progress. The okuns, lokoja and koto have the power and spirit in them to turn the fortunes of the state around by providing good governance in the state. ‘It is on this basis that we are calling for power shift to kogi west.
“If kogi state is to remain as one entity and we truly crave unity and peace, then the power must be shifted to Kogi west in 2023. Only on the basis of this solid foundation can the unity, peace and security of the state be sustained.
“We want to use this medium to reinstate and reinforce our commitment to the progress and peace in the state”.
“Since creation of kogi state in 1991, Kogi East and the central have had their turns at the state. So, it is equitable and in the interest of justice and peace of this state that kogi west should have their turn in 2023. That is the only way, we can say kogi state is our state and our leaders should believe in justice and equity.”
