Malami on Redesigned Notes: FG’ll still lose – Gombe Commissioner
By Chima Azubuike
Gombe State Commissioner for Information and Culture Meshack Lauco, says the Federal Government would lose if it proceeds with the legal tussle on naira notes redesign.
Lauco, made this disclosure in a telephone interview with one of our Correspondents in Gombe, adding that the three governors’ had the mandate of the remaining Progressives Governors’.
“They (three governor’s) had the mandate of the remaining governors’; because they held a virtual meeting and they gave the mandate and they now went to meet Mr President including Badaru, El-rufai on behalf of the Progressives Governors’. It is the decision of the governors. Every governor was given report of his state,” Lauco said.
Speaking about Malami’s legal tussle, he described Malami’s attempt to institute legal action as saving face, stressing that the right thing would have been to accept the initial judgement, following governors’ familiarity with the hardship of their residents.
“That he (Malami), has appealed does not mean the governors have lost. Sometimes, a law not tested you won’t know it validity until it tested in the court. The Governors’ have taken the bulls by the horn they went to the court and if the court has ruled and said there should be no sudden expiration of the old denomination.
“I think it would have been a leeway for the Federal Government to say okay, we abide by it but if the Attorney General is trying to save face to say I will appeal, let him appeal they will still lose because the Governors are on the ground in the states and they see the suffering of the people, they see the problems witnessed by the people and said let test the law,” he added.
