Poor officiating reason teams don’t excel in away matches – Finidi George

Finidi George, Head Coach of Enyimba Football Club, on Saturday explained why teams don’t excel during away matches previously in Nigeria Premier Football League.
George, made this disclosure in Pantami stadium, during a post-match conference shortly after his team defeated their host Gombe United Football Club 2-1.
Our Correspondent reports that Gombe United Yusuf Taiye’s goal at 12th minute placed the team at vantage before it was equalised by Elijah Akanni in the 35th minute and Obioma’s goal at the 53th minute of the competition gave the away team victory.
According to him, poor officiating was reason why teams previously don’t excel during away match, stressing that the current season holds unique opportunity for all and sundry.
George said, “The league is getting better, so far, I see teams go away and get victory and that is what we expect of the League.
“We can’t stress on everything, but I think one of the major reasons why teams find it difficult to win away matches was officiating but I think this year this season it has been corrected majorly.”
On what wins during away matches portend he added, “So far so good has been on a good side. We are happy we got the points we hope the officiating continues this way. We may go to Aba and the team(Gombe United) may go there and beat us. Everything is open.It will help to determine winners of the league.”
Speaking about the match and the performance of his boys Nigeria’s former International said, “We are happy that we got the victory. It was a difficult game both team’s played well and we took our chances and we are happy we have the three points.”
