The Gombe State Gubernatorial candidate of Action Alliance Brigadier General Nuhu Miller (retd.), has lamented that most children in rural areas learn under trees, promising that he would equip schools if elected.
Miller made this disclosure on Wednesday in an interview with journalists on his path with Gombe residents and the reasons he should be voted for governor.
According to him, as the first orthopedic surgeon in the whole of the North-East, he has far-reaching experience to deliver the state from bad governance, frowning at why Gombe State University should be part of Academic Staff Union of Universities strike.
He said strike would be a thing of the past, disclosing that aside Education, Healthcare delivery, Agriculture, Water include some of his priority as Gombe State Governor.
Miller disclosed that he was involved in the creation of the state, adding that he worked painstakingly with other stakeholders to ensure Gombe comes to being.
He said, “I was involved in the creation of Gombe State. One has not been happy with what is happening in Gombe especially Education one is not happy about it. We still children in primary secondary schools having education under the tree and this should not be. it’s affecting our future our children have no quality educational background. During the last completed strike I discovered that they didn’t go on ASUU strike in most universities in South West because I went for accreditation for universities there Gombe State University shouldn’t go on strike, education of our children should not be disrupted it has to be smooth.
“Gombe is the jewel in the savannah, means Gombe should be able to feed the nation but unfortunately, we are not making use of it and we have to improve agriculture in the state. In the villages where they are farming, there are no roads we will make sure there are rural roads and rural infrastructure such as Electricity, Water go to the rural areas.
“In health sector, in each of the 11 Local Government Areas there must be hospitals fully standard with all doctors, nurses, and equipment there will be dispensary to serve women in labour in a village.”
Speaking about the reason for low voter turnout in the state, the Elder Statesman ascribed the reason to failed promises, dwindling economy, stressing that he would change the situation of things in the state.
“People feel depressed that there has not been change but we are promising them that there is going to be change we are here for the change.
“The masses will tell you that there are alot of ill feelings they are not happy that was the reason for the low turnout,” Miller added.
