Armless 22-year-old pleads for sponsorship after gaining Economics admission

22-year-old Maryam Umar, who was born without upper arms, has pleaded with public-spirited individuals, Government to come to her rescue to enable her complete her registration into Gombe State University.
However, being armless has instead increased her abilities according to her, as she writes, does house chores with her toes.

Based on the payment advice obtained by our correspondent Umar, recently got admission to study Economics in Gombe but required N81,322.50 as fees for non-indigene.

Pleading for assistance in an interview with journalists at the Correspondents’ Chapel, Umar said her parents don’t have the necessary resources to enable her proceed in the academic pursuit, adding that she survives through alms from residents.
She said, “Yea, I finished secondary school, my parents reside at BCGA, Gombe. I rounded off secondary in the year 2022. I scored 182 in JAMB and I have four credit including English and Mathematics in NECO.
“But I don’t have money for registration of my course to study Economics in Gombe State University. My parents don’t have money and I’m appealing to public-spirited individuals to support, so that I don’t waste this opportunity. I can be supported through Maryam Umar, Union Bank 0015749904.”
Umar, disclosed that although from a large family, she would replicate the number of eight children when she gets married, stressing that she would become a business tycoon.
“My father has eight children, am the third child out of eight and the only one born without arm. I will have eight children, I want to do business when I complete my education,” she added.
She maintained that she has chosen to see abilities in her disability, noting that she practically does everything for herself without being a liability to anyone.
Umar added, “I feel happy that I have seen ability in my disability and whatever anybody can do with hand, I can do with the leg.”
