Ex-Gov Shema gives PDP 48 hours to rescind decisions
Katsina former Governor, Barrister Shehu Shema on Friday gave the Peoples Democratic Party, a 48- hour ultimatum within which to rescind his suspension from the party.
Shema also gave the party the same ultimatum within which to rescind its dissolution of the Katsina state executive committee of the party.
The former Governor told the party that it’s failure to consider his two appeals within the 48 hour ultimatum means he has ceased to be the member of the party.
Shema made the declaration in a petition he wrote the PDP National Chairman, Dr.Iyorchia Ayu.
The petition which was personally signed by the former Governor, was dated 24, March,2023.The PDP National legal Adviser was also copied .
Copies of the petition which were made available to the media in Katsina on Friday afternoon showed that it ( the petition) was acknowledged and received at the PDP National headquarters,Abuja also on Friday,24, March,2023.
Shema told the party chairman in the petition that apart from the fact his suspension from the party and the dissolution of the Katsina state executive committee of the party being against the provision of the constitution of the party,he had been a loyal party member for twenty four years,enduring all challenges.
The former Governor declared in the petition :” Iam a member of National Executive Council , Board of Trustees( BOT) and Caucus of our party and know as of law and fact that the dissolution of a lawfully elected Katsina state executive committee cannot bear constitutional validity as well as my suspension from the party.
“It is pertinent to state categorically here that chapter 10 of the PDP constitution (2017) as amended (Disciplinary Procedure) particularly section 56(6)(7) and section 59 (3) were not adhered to in reaching these decisions which clearly demonstrate contempt for democracy.
” It is in the heights of these developments that I make the following appeals: Rescind the National Working Committee decision of unlawful dissolution of Katsina state duly elected executive committee and allow them to complete their tenure and disband the purported caretaker committee similar to which so many court decisions in the land have illegalised.
“Rescind the National Working Committee decision of my suspension as member of our party within the next fouty- eight hours (48hrs).
“Take notice that failure to effect the two changes above within 48 hours,this letter serves as my formal and official withdrawal of my membership from the Peoples Democratic Party,effective from Saturday,25th,March,2023.”
