You lack capacity to seek arrest, prosecution of APC Chairman, Ganduje tells NNPP Guber candidate
The Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Saturday, dismissed calls by the New Nigerian Peoples Party gubernatorial candidate, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for the arrest of the State APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, for preventing voters from casting their votes for the NNPP candidate.
In a chat, with newsmen, shortly after casting his votes at his Dawakin Tofa polling unit, in Dawakin Tofa/ Rimin Gado Local Government Area, Ganduje stressed that he lacks the capacity to call for the arrest of APC Chairman, pointing out that it is only the Independent National Electoral Commission and Security agencies have the power to arrest and prosecute the APC Chairman.
Commenting on the conduct of the elections, he not only appreciated the efforts of INEC for promptly distributing sensitive and non-sensitive materials to the poling units but also hailed the massive turnout of voters.
Similarly, he expressed optimism that the All Progressive Congress, will emerge victorious at the close of the day, just as he also hailed INEC for using the just reconfigured Bimodal Voters Accreditation System, stressing that it has gone a step further in ensuring a free and transparent elections.
Earlier, while casting his vote in his Chiranci polling unit in Gwale Local Government Area, NNPP guber candidate, Abba Kabir Yusuf (Abba gida gida), alleged that APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas is deliberately preventing voters to cast their votes for the preferred candidate of the NNPP, thereby scuttling the growth and development of democracy.
To this extent, he called on Security agencies to arrest and prosecute the APC Chairman, failure of which they must have compromised their neutrality.
Apart from that, Ganduje acknowledged that the conduct of the Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections is peaceful, just as he commended the efforts of INEC in using the Guber polls in rectifying the challenges encountered during the Presidential and National Assembly polls.
So many polling units visited by the Punch in Kano in Kano on Saturday, recorded violent skirmishes, as some youth for and against NNPP and APC were chanting “: Bamuaso APC,( we don’t want APC}, while other youths were chanting on the contrary, we want NNPP”
As at the time of filing this report, the political atmosphere was turbo charged, while a combined team of armed security agencies. Some of whom were armed with tear gas were on hand to ensure peace and peaceful atmosphere.
