‘But for my mum, I would have become Army officer’ – Adeboye
A renowned clergy and General Overseer Worldwide of Redeemed Christian Church of God Enoch Adeboye, says for his mother, he would have become a military personnel.
Adeboye, made this disclosure on Sunday during a monthly telecast monitored by our correspondent with the theme; ‘Vessels unto honour’, taken from II Timothy 2vs 20-21.
Our correspondent reports that the service for April’s thanksgiving was dedicated to celebration of the Army, Para-military and Police, as many of them appeared in their regalia.
The preacher who developed a career as an academician with expertise in Mathematics, where he lectured in the university prior to his call for full time ministry said his passion for the military began years ago.
According to him, his mother pleaded with him to wait till her passage before joining the military, adding that when she passed on in 1990, it had become too late for him to go back to his first love.
He disclosed that the uniform security jobs required the individual to be tough, endure and display instant obedience.
Adeboye said, “I wanted to be a soldier. Is my mother who didn’t allow me, when I told her I wanted to join the army after I graduated, she said to me you are my only son, am not asking you not to join the army just wait till I died and you have buried me then you can do whatever you you want.
“That was in 1960’s by the time she died in 1990, it was already too late for me to join the army but I love the army, maybe another time I will tell you the reasons why,” the reputable clergy added.
Adeboye noted that his love for the army increased his desire to appreciate films showcasing military intelligence, adding that, “because I love the army I watched anything that has to do with the military and I’m telling you I saw what changed the civilian to iron men. You see them in beautiful dresses maybe you should check what goes on from when they enlist you will see the hardness, endurance.”
Explaining the essence of vessel, Adeboye noted that there are vessels unto honour, and unto dishonour, stressing that God constantly touches vessels unto honour, which confers level of importance to it.
“When they (President, Vice President) are having lunch you can hear some of which you can’t share. Constantly he (God) breathes on you, from time to time God kisses you, protects you because you are important,” the preacher stressed.
