Degri Community marks District Head’s 50th anniversary
….Gombe Deputy Governor congratulates monarch, extols virtues
For Degri Community and environs, it was a memorable day and a celebration of royalty as the people converged to celebrate their District Head His Highness Alhaji Ahmadu Aliyu Jamaji III, for spending 50 Years on the throne.
The dignitaries both highly and lowly placed came from from far and near to honour the octogenarian monarch for actively serving his Community and humanity in his 50 years on the throne.
The Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, applauded the District Head for living up to the ideals of quality leadership by epitomising peace, patience and unity.
He said, “like the Chairman of the occasion has rightly pointed out, leadership is very tasking, difficult and challenging, even if it is for only one day. We must commend the District Head for leading his subjects effectively for fifity years.
“Let me also commend the people of Degri for giving him the support in his years of leadership to continue to serve humanity. We need to continue to exhibit qualities that creates room for unity and peaceful coexistence. This is what we need most to progress.
“The trio of Degri, Kulani and Sikkam Districts which is commonly known as Derwo is well known for, tolerance, hardwork and philanthropy. We should teach our youths the habits of tolerance and patients as they explore their potentials of contributing positively to Development. The habit of begging in the society today as practiced by our youths is very alien to us, and we must discard it, if our youths should harness their potentials their potentials and brace up for future leadership.”
The Deputy Governor conveyed the goodwill of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, to the District Head and his subjects at the moment of his Fifty years on throne.
He appreciated the contributions of the monarch to the peace and socio-economic development of Gombe State, also assuring him that their administration shall continue to give traditional rulers the conducive working environment to be able to do more in the state and humanity.
The Chairman of the occasion, Ambassador Yerima Abdullahi congratulated the District Head of Degri for successfully leading his people for 50 years.
He said, “amidst the current challenges, it takes uncommon commitment and courage to surmount hurdles facing leadership.”
The Bala Waja, Alh.Mohammed Danjuma Muhammed commended the Degri Community for celebrating their District Head over 50 years on throne.
The Bala Waja pointed out that Degri has been one of the best in peaceful co-existence in the entire Waja Chiefdom, calling on the people to continue to give the needed support for him to do more.
He used the opportunity to also call on his subjects to shun idleness and engage in farming as the rainy season is around, towards self-reliance and food security.
The District Head of Degri, Jamaji III was first appointed as a Village Head on first May, 1973, until in 30th May, 2005 when he was upgraded to the present rank.
The occasion featured cultural dances of Waja, Cham Lunguda etc.
The entourage of the Deputy Governor include Secretary to the State Government; Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, Commissioners of Works; Engineer Abubakar Bappa, Trade, Industry and Tourism; Alhaji Nasiru Mohammed Aliyu, Energy, Pindiga, Water Resources; Alh. Mijinyawa Yahaya, among others.
