…. Jatau calls for intensified prayers

By Wilson Yakubu

The Christian Community in Gombe State under the auspices of Christian Association of Nigeria has organised a Thanksgiving Prayer in honour of the second term Inauguration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, and his Deputy, Manassah Daniel Jatau.

The interdenominational prayer was organised at the Christian Association of Nigeria, Gombe (CAN) Centre with former Commissioners and other former political office holders in attendance.

The Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria, Gombe Chapter Reverend Father Alphonsus Shinga, explained that the event was organised to appreciate God for the successful completion of the first tenure of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya and his Deputy, Manassah Daniel Jatau.

He said, “we organised this Inauguration thanksgiving prayer to appreciate God for the successful completion of the first tenure of this administration of Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya and his Deputy and for the success of Inauguration for the second tenure which comes up tomorrow.

” It is also to pray for the success of the Inauguration of the President-elect, and all those who will be inaugurated tomorrow.

“We appreciate the Governor for supporting the prayers, we also appreciate Your Excellency the Deputy Governor for being part of this prayers. Tell his Excellency the Governor that we have high hopes on him during the second tenure. We shall be coming, we shall be expecting more from the government.

“Assure the Governor that we shall support his administration by praying for you to succeed, for the overall well being of Gombe State.”

In his good message, Jatau,  commended the Christian Community in the state for coming under one umbrella to appreciate God for Gombe State and to pray for the success of the Inauguration at the National and states’ levels.

He noted that leadership is a very difficult thing that entails shouldering your own personal problems alongside those of the people you are leading, as a matter of which prayers are very necessary, if one must succeed.

” Let me begin by saying that, the Governor is aware of this prayer meeting. Myself and Prof. Kalho had to excuse him in a meeting to be here. Therefore I bring his greetings and goodwill to this gathering.

” I know that all churches prayed for the success of tomorrow’s Inauguration during service. The best name to be given to this gathering is combine prayers, where we kept aside all our respective denomination’s to come and pray as one body. In John Chapter 17 verse 21 we are requested to be one because we are one body. I urge you to pray without ceasing for christianity is all about prayers.

“We should continue to intensify prayers especially for our leaders because leadership is very difficult,. Leadership entails bearing other people’s problems and adding them to your own. Let us therefore continue to pray for our leaders at all levels to succeed in meeting up with the responsibilities bestowed on them.

” May I use this opportunity to appreciate you all for the prayers you have been offering for success in the state before, during, and after elections. Some of the states had it so tough, some results were declared inconclusive but in Gombe State it was successful. These all are results of prayers. May God continue to bless Gombe State for the benefit of every resident,” he said.

Delivering the Sermon, Pastor Chris Godobe of God’s Glorious Tabernacle of Witness, Tunfure spoke on the topic “Responsibility and Accountability”.

The Pastor who is also the CAN Vice Chairman, Gombe Chapter said a good leader should be somebody who should be exemplary in leadership, one with the fear of God, and with the full confidence of his followers.

He further explained that, a good leader must be someone with great performance index, noting that even though they are not god’s but, people believe they have solution to everything.

He said accepting any responsibility means depositing as collateral accountability. He prayed God Almighty to guide all those who have been given responsibilities and would be inaugurated tomorrow to lead with the fear of God knowing well that they shall account to God and man after their terms.

The occasion featured prayers for Nigeria, Gombe State, Leaders at all levels and CAN as well as songs rendition by the CAN Choir.

Those present include Former Commissioners of Information, Women Affairs and Special Duties, Meshach Audu Lauco, Naomi J.J Awak, and Prince Christopher Audu Buba Maisheru, as well as Special Adviser to the Governor and Chairman Gombe State Urban Planning and Development Authority, Group Captain Peter Bilal ( retired) and Executive Secretary, Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Ishaya Karu.
