About a year, when our correspondent visited the community on investigation the Village Head, Majidadi Abubakar, urged the government to renovate their community primary school which has been demolished over the years, adding that children learnt under harsh and unfriendly condition.
Abubakar said, “The issue of this primary school, we have been pursuing government since Hasidu’s administration to build us a community school. Unfortunately, no one heard our pleas, we have had countless promises from others we voted to power.”
Speaking in an interview with our correspondent, Goje’s political Stakeholder, Musa Abdulkadir-Akko, said the school was the senator’s attempt at bringing his constituents dividends of democracy.
He said, “The school was first opened in 2009 about 14 years. It was through communal effort they built it using mud. It had two classes, and an office but after some years the building collapsed and they resorted to sitting under trees.
“The population of the area is about 1,500 and the land was initially made available by the late village head of wuiwui. We have two benefiting communities namely wuiwui and Sabongari wuiwui. The school after completion was inaugurated around March 2023.”
While urging wuiwui communities to take ownership of the building, Abdulkadir-Akko, called for continued support from constituents, promising to bring more dividends of democracy to the people, “in the whole of Nigeria Goje is the only Senator that won election in Nigeria without campaigning. The reason is because of his humane leadership,” he said.
Also, a resident of the community Idris Abubakar, while lauding the various efforts of the sponsors, and executor said the school would uplift the educational needs of the people, adding that education is the best legacy.
Abubakar said, “We want to thank PERISCOPE NIGERIA for bringing the plight of our children to the required quarters. Usually during rainy season they (students) don’t go to school because trees can’t protect them from been drenched, but that won’t be the case again. I also want to appeal to the State Universal Basic Education to provide the school with additional teachers; at the moment we have just one teacher, that is grossly inadequate.”
When contacted on the efforts of the State Government, Commissioner for Education Dr Aishatu Maigari, promised to clarify on their interventions with SUBEB, and get back to our correspondent.
However, as at the time of filing the report Maigari was yet to provide an official statement.
