Senate wants FG to immortalise Dokpesi

The Senate on Wednesday implored the Federal Government to immortalise the founder of Daar Communications, owners of Raypower FM and African Independent Television.
A cross section of senators that paid tribute to the Agenebode shipping and media mogul adjudged him as a democrat, stressing the need for FG to immortalise him.
This was the resolution of the senate in a plenary monitored by our correspondent.
Speaking, Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, described Dokpesi as a blessing to the South-South.
He said, “A great guy, a blessing to the South-South, who is like a river that has no enemy.”
On his part, Chief Whip of the Senate, Orji Kalu, said Dokpesi and his wife taught him shipping adding that, “May God bless his soul, he and his wife taught me shipping.”
Also, Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South senatorial district commended the late media mogul saying, “He was a trailblazer, he pioneered the first privately owned television and radio station in Nigeria. He gave us key ingredient of democracy. Good men like him are rare.”
Also speaking, Smart Adeyemi, who was former President of Nigeria Union of Journalists, recalled Dokpesi’s impact to the media.
Adeyemi said, “It was shocking news to hear about his death. I knew him as President of NUJ. AIT is a balancing force, he was ready to listen, a Democrat.”
On her part, Biodun Olujimi, described Dokpesi as a jinx breaker, adding that he gave Nigerians opportunity to recreate themselves in useful forms.
“Dokpesi was a jinx breaker, democrat and believer in the ingenuity of human beings to recreate themselves, ” She said.
Anayo Rochas, former Governor of Imo State recalled his last experience with late Dokpesi, adding that it was at Rochas foundation where the deceased was impressed by his organisation’s effort.
He urged National Broadcasting Commission, Edo State Government to erect structures in Dokpesi’s honour to ensure his legacy remained after his demise.
