The Polytechnic, Ibadan, has recently implemented a new policy prohibiting students from the use of vehicles and power bikes on campus.
The decision was made during a meeting of the Extended Management on Monday, June 19, 2023, and was subsequently announced through a circular by the Registrar, Deputy Registrar Akantande F. B. (Mrs).
“Starting from 6:00 am on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, no cars or power bikes will be permitted to enter the institution through any of the gates,” the circular partly read.

The circular emphasised that any registered student found violating this rule would face disciplinary action from the Students’ Disciplinary Committee, resulting in a one-semester suspension.
The circular added, “Unregistered students caught with vehicles or power bikes on campus will be handed over to the police.
“Furthermore, any students’ vehicles or power bikes discovered on campus will be impounded and can only be released upon payment of a fine amounting to twenty thousand Naira (N20,000).”
The Management of the institution urged all students to strictly adhere to this decision.
While some students have voiced their discontent with the new policy, expressing concerns over the inconvenience it may cause them, “the administration remains committed to ensuring a safer and more conducive environment for all members of the academic community,” the Management said.
