2023 Women’s World Cup: Germany trashes Morocco 6-0 in group H opener
By Daniel Mfoniso
Germany Women’s team sent a sounding message with a 6 – 0 defeat to World Cup debutants Morocco, leaving the North Africans with nothing to ponder on as they went on to underline their tournament’s credentials at Melbourne Stadium, Australia.

Alexandra Popp scored a 10th minute opener to set them on their way when she met Kathrin Hendrich’s pinpoint cross to score her 63rd international goal. She added the 2nd through Klara Buhl’s corner 22nd minutes later to end the first half on a 2- 0.
Klara Buhl got her goal just at the opening seconds of the 2nd half, Lea Schuller was also on target at the 90th minutes to help the Germans send a roaring message to other opponents.
Ultimately, the Atlas lioness being the first Arab nation to play in a Women’s World Cup, gave a good account on themselves with series of fast play and quick counter attacks but lack the composure to capitalise on their chances.
However, Reynald Pedro’s side contributed to their own downfall through Yasmin Mrabet, and Zineb Reedouani’s inevitable own goals at 54th and 79th minutes respectively to put the scoreline out of reach.
