Friday rain in Gombe State, sacked Dogon Ruwa community in Kaltungo Local Government Area, destroying houses, food items.

According to a community leader Aliyu Isah, Dogon Ruwa lost about 15 animals, including sheep and goats, adding that about 100 houses were affected, with 500 persons said to have been rendered homeless.

Ishah who doubles as Sa’in Dogon Ruwa of the community told our correspondent that the Local Government authorities were aware and yet to act, urged the Gombe State Government to help them.

Our correspondent reports that based on early warning signs released by Nigeria Meteorological Agency and the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, Yalmatu Deba, Balanga and Nafada are flood prone. However, State Emergency Management Agency claimed it extended sensitisation campaigns statewide.
Isah said, “We the Dogon Ruwa community appeals to the State Government to extend assistance to us. We need shelters and food has following Friday’s rainfall it will go a long way in addressing the immediate needs of those of us who are facing hardships. We have already complained to our Caretaker Local Government chairman.
“We lost about 15 sheep and goats. 100 houses destroyed and 500 currently homeless. The lack of adequate shelter has become a pressing concern for many of us, leaving families vulnerable and exposed to risks. Also, the scarcity of food resources further worsens our situation. The value of what was lost is in millions.”
When contacted Director Relief and Rehabilitation SEMA, Mohammed Garba, promised to contact our correspondent.
However, as at the time of filing this report, Garba was yet to respond to the question on response of the Agency in reducing Dogon Ruwa’s challenges.
