Gombe Gov presents N6m to victims of fire disaster
Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, has presented the sum of 3 Million each to two families whose Houses and property were recently gutted by fire.
The two families are Muhammad Auwal Isah, the immediate past Special Assistant to the Governor on Photography and Malam Umar Izzuddeen Yahaya of Gabukka quarters.
The Governor had earlier sent a high-powered government delegation led by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, to commiserate with the two families and directed the State Emergency Management Agency SEMA to embark on assessment and recommendations on how the government would support the affected families.
Presenting the cheques to the beneficiaries on behalf of the State Governor, Secretary to the State Government Njodi, said the present administration in the state is committed to the welfare of its citizens particularly those in dire circumstances.
On the seeming delay in the approval of the monies to the victims, the representative of the Governor attributed it to bureaucracy in government and matters of due process.

He said, “the monies given to the victims is not compensation but government’s demonstration of genuine concern to offer relief to the two families.”
Responding on behalf of the two families, Abubakar said the governor’s magnanimity would go a long way in resettling their families.
He expressed gratitude to Governor Yahaya for the kind gesture praying to Allah to bless him and the government of Gombe State.
He disclosed that the governor had earlier identified with them when the incident occurred, adding that “We lack words to thank the Governor enough following the financial support.”
Earlier, the Director Relief and Rehabilitation SEMA Mohammed , said after the ugly incident the agency went on an assessment visit of the two razed buildings based on the directive of the governor.

He explained that the team assessed and made recommendations for financial support which was graciously approved by the Governor, hence the presentation of the cheques.

Present at the brief ceremony were; The Executive Secretary GoHealth Dr. Umar Abubakar and his Primary Health Care Development Agency PHCDA counterpart Dr. Abdulrahaman Shuaibu.
