Great Green Wall: Gombe Gov plants tree to mark celebration
Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, on Thursday performed the symbolic planting of a tree to mark the international celebration of the Great Green Wall.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Manasseh Daniel Jatau, the Governor said activities of the National Agency for the Great Green Wall fits well into his administration’s Gombe Goes Green Project.

He said the Gombe Goes Green Project 3G, is a calculated policy by the Gombe State Government to plant an average of four million trees in the first four years of the administration of Governor Inuwa Yahaya and another four million in the second four years.
The Governor said his administration appreciates the social and economic challenges caused by climate change and global warming hence the decision by the state government under his leadership to introduce the Gombe Goes Green Project.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya expressed gratitude to the National Agency for the Great Green Wall for striving towards curtailing the encroachment of the Sahara desert in the arid and semi arid regions of Nigeria and the world at large.

On the new Dutch technology which the National Agency for the Great Green Wall introduced to ease tree planting and it’s growth, the Governor challenged the Agency to improvise same for easy access.
Speaking earlier, the Deputy Director Rural Development and Extension Services in the Federal Ministry of Environment Fati Abba Kaka Yerima, said the National Agency for the Great Green Wall is a pan African initiative established to tackle land degredation, desertification, boost food security and improve the livelihood of the people living in desert prone areas.
She revealed that Northern 13 states and 13 African Countries are involved in the Great Green Wall project to curtail the encroachment of the Sahara desert.
The Permanent Secretary Gombe State Ministry of Environment Abubakar Hassan, had informed dignitaries at event that the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, is committed to the welfare of the environment.
Highlight of the event was the symbolic planting of tree at the premises of the Gombe House by the representative of the Governor, Jatau, the Secretary to the Gombe State Government Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, and the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Environment were in attendance.
