NAGLI condemns sit-at-home order by IPOB in South-East zone
The Network for Advocacy and Good Leadership Initiative, under the leadership of Dr Kanu Agodi, says it strongly condemns the recent sit-at-home order issued by the Indigenous People Of Biafra in the South-East zone of Nigeria.
In a press statement obtained by PERISCOPE NIGERIA, NAGLI lamented the losses attributable to such orders to the region in the past, noting that dialogue should be embraced.
The statement partly read, “We believe that such actions are detrimental to the growth and development of the region and go against the principles of peace, unity, and progress.
“The Network for Advocacy and Good Leadership Initiative is a non-partisan organisation that is committed to fostering good governance, advocating for the rights and welfare of citizens, and promoting harmonious coexistence among all ethnic groups in Nigeria. Our mission is to create an enabling environment for socio-political development and to encourage dialogue, inclusiveness, and mutual respect among all stakeholders.
“We firmly believe that the sit-at-home order imposed by IPOB undermines the social, economic, and educational fabric of the South East Zone. The adverse effects of this directive are far-reaching, resulting in loss of productivity, economic setbacks, disruptions to educational activities, and an overall sense of fear and insecurity among residents. This order not only affects the targeted region but also impacts neighboring states and the country as a whole.”
Agodi said his organisation advocates for a peaceful and progressive approach to address grievances and concerns, encouraging open dialogue and engagement to resolve issues, promote unity, and advance the welfare of all citizens.
“The organisation strongly believes that violence, intimidation, and the restriction of movement hinder the achievement of meaningful solutions and the development of a prosperous society.
“We call upon the South-East Zone community, including individuals, businesses, and educational institutions, to reject the sit-at-home order and to continue their daily activities in a peaceful manner. Our organisation stands in solidarity with all citizens who want a conducive environment for growth, development, and progress. We further condemn the utterances of Simon Ekpa the leader of this non state actor group and call on Ebonyi State government to quickly assist in arresting him to prevent more damages to our economy, lives and property within the zone.
“The Network For Advocacy And Good Leadership Initiative remains committed to fostering dialogue, promoting good governance, and advocating for the rights and welfare of all Nigerians,” the statement added.
