Tinubu reappoints Goni, Tarfa, urges Senate to screen others for NEDC board
The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday received President Bola Tinubu’s request to screen and confirm the reappointment of Mohamed Goni Alkali as
Managing Director North-East Development Commission and 10 others
President Tinubu is also seeking the confirmation of members and Executive Management of the board of the North-East Development Commission
The Nominees for Confirmation Include
1. General Paul Tarfa , Chairman ( North east Adamawa)
2.Hon Gambo Maikyau member ( North East Taraba )
3. Abdullahi Abbas member ( North West Kano)
4.Zaf Steven Ondora Member ( North Central Benue)
5. Chief Mutiu Lawal Areh Member ( South West Lagos )
6.Samuel Ifeanyi Onuigbo Member( South East Abia)
7.Frank Achinike Owo Member (South south Rivers )
8. Mohamed Goni Alkali (Managing Director North-East Borno) Re-appointment
9. Musa Yashi Executive Director Humanitarian Affairs ( North-East Bauchi)
10 Ahmed abdulsalam Yahaya executive director operations, North-East Gombe
11. Dr Abubakar Garba Ileah , Executive Director Admin and finance, (North-East Yobe)
The president ‘s request is contained in a letter read during Wednesday plenary by the president of the Senate Godswill Akpabio
According to him, the request for confirmation and appointment of members of the governing board of the North-East Development Commission is in accordance with section 5 sub section b , of the North East Development Commission Establishment act 2017.
President Tinubu added that two representatives from the ministry of finance , budget and National planning will complete the membership of the board as stipulated by the act.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that Dr Umar Hashidu, was in acting capacity as Managing Director North-East Development Commission representing Gombe since May 2023.
He was appointed by the erstwhile President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, although his ascension has raised reaction as a group of youths recently protested at All Progressives Congress secretariat, saying that Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, was not involved in his appointment.
Some Pundits also commended Buhari for remembering the late governor of the state by nominating his son, Umar, who many referred to as a consummate Manager of men and resources.
