Why I left Gombe United FC – Ex-Gaffer
The Gaffer of Gombe United Aliyu Zubairu, has given reasons he left the Football Club, explaining that he didn’t resign but had to quit following his decision not to renew his contract.
He blamed it to poor welfare and administrative bottle necks, impending his smooth operation in Club, stressing that out of 50 match bonuses, the State Government only paid four match bonuses leaving over 46 unpaid.
He said, “I didn’t resign, i didn’t renew my contract which had expired; I was supposed to renew the contract but I did not, I say I want to quit now.”
Zubairu added he was leaving that’s the reason he didn’t renew his contract with the club
When asked if he would be willing to take up a new contract at Gombe United, Zubairu disclosed that it would depend on the nature of the contract, “because I have done everything humanly possible to keep the team going from NNL and two seasons in NPFL but the team refused to change for better and I don’t know where the problem is coming from,” he added.
Zubairu continued saying, “For four seasons now we were only paid four match bonuses and money is not given and agent will continue to withdraw their players week in week out because of the agreement that the management had with agents and had not been fulfilled
“This is a distraction; I have to do the work of a coach, psychologist and everything; there is no match we go we don’t have problem of bus; our vehicle keeps getting damaged at every movement.”
Zubairu noted that he would change his mind only when the condition of service improves, “We want change but if things didn’t change then I have paid my dues
“If I am called for a renewal of contract with a better condition of service, of course I will do it,” he said.
Zubairu said he was available to sign contract with any club that presents good offer, while expressing his admiration to fans of Gombe United, he said they were supportive.
“I will not be in Gombe forever, they should bear with me and with the years I have spent, in Nigeria league it is hard to be in a club for three seasons and not to talk of four.
“I have paid my dues and the team will always be in my heart.”
Zubairu urged the management to increase the financial commitment to the club before engaging the next coaching crew so that the team would be better motivated because without money, there is no football or sports
