Abia workers explain why AG’s entrance was blocked
Some workers under the employment of Abia State Government on Tuesday, blocked the entrance of the Accountant General Njum Onyemenam, over what they described as unjust treatments.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that the angry workers decried the over four months of debt by Alex Otti, administration.
The group blamed Onyemenam, for handling their issues with levity, noting that their appointments dates back to years of experience.
Speaking, a worker who simply identified himself as Choice, from Ministry of Trade and Investment, in a viral video obtained by PERISCOPE NIGERIA, bemoaned over four months of working without pay.
Choice, who absolved Governor Alex Otti, lamented the shady dealings of those in the finance office.
He said, “So for sometime now since April,we have not been paid our salaries. And the reason non of us can tell, why salaries are not been paid. I know that Mr governor has given an order for them to pay salaries, So I do not know why those at the helm of affairs have not been able to pay our salaries up to this time.
“Sometimes, they will pay some and leave the others when you ask they will tell you that the system dropped some;the system is a garbage in garbage out something, whatever you ask the system to do that is what the system does. And at this point some of us are being owned salaries of April to May,June,July to this August.”
Choice disclosed that all entreaties to resolve the challenges have proved abortive, adding that if their services were not wanted the government should openly state instead of allowing them waste their resources.
“So when we did not receive our salaries,we came to the AG’s office; so while getting to the AG’s office, she saw us and reverse her vehicle to where she was coming from and she couldn’t talk to us. Later on the Head of Service came and told us to write our names, Departments and Ministries and handover to the gateman of the AG’s office, so this is something that we couldn’t do this is something we have been doing for the past four months now, different sheet from here and there for four months now and we have not seen any result.
“We have approached the Permanent Secretary (Ministry of Finance) he said that his hands are tied, he doesn’t know what to do at this point that we should exercise patience and that is not what we can not continue to do again;over four months we don’t have salaries. We have children and aged ones that we are taking care of and we heard that someone’s twins died because she didn’t have money to take care of them. So we are very angry but we are not angry at the governor but angry at the agents are suppose to disburse this salaries. Let them pay their salaries because the governor is ready to pay people their salaries,” Choice lamented.
Meanwhile, the state’s AG, Onyemenam, has debunked media reports that she was chased by the angry workers,. describing as unfounded.
