Commander 301 Artillery Regiment seeks collaboration with Gombe Journalists
Commander 301 Artillery Regiment General Support Gombe, Colonel Sule Ahmed, on Monday sought for collaboration with working journalists in the state.

Sule noted that following security challenges in the country the functions of the army have overlapped with other security agencies, noting that members of the fourth estate of the realm are valuable assets.

According to him, due to the preponderance of security threats, the army won’t fold its arms when there is unrest in the country, adding its member would continue to work towards maintenance of peace.

He made this disclosure at a media parley in Gombe, following his assumption of office recently.

Ahmed said, “Constitutionally, Nigerian Army has the responsibility of defending the territorial integrity of the country, but because of security challenges overtime our duties have overlapped with other security agencies. You are not supposed to be seeing us in the towns or in internal security duties but because of the challenges that our country face.
“In our carrying out our national duties issues can come up either with our officers or our men, some of which may be incidences altercation with members of the society sometimes our actions or inactions could be misconstrued. Some of us are at the receiving end trying to explain ourselves when such happens I call that gap or misinformation.”

Ahmed while seeking for collaboration, added that he intends to run a media friendly Artillery Regiment, saying “the synergy of the media cannot be overemphasised.”
On his part, Gombe State Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Saidu Malala commended Ahmed’s foresight adding that the media would conduct its responsibility creditably.
“By inviting the media, it means you mean business,” he added.
