Federal Road Safety Corps on Sunday urged Gombe motorists to avoid Gombe- Bauchi expressway for now and ply alternative Dukku/Darazo route to Bauchi.
Confirming the challenges of assessing the expressway, following the caved in bridge, Gombe Sector Commander, Felix Theman, urged thousands of unsuspecting passengers to take Darazo route.

Our correspondent reports that the Dukku/Darazo route which is also in bad shape, is farther in distance with huge demands for fuel consumption into Bauchi from Gombe State.
According to Theman, those without adequate information on the condition of the road returned to access the Darazo route as an alternative.
He said, “It at Kalajanga before you get to Alkeleri, it not the popular one that you know the one at the watermelon point, not the place after it.
“This one is part of the road that has completely given way even though there is a bridge there.
“Some people that travelled to Bauchi had to come back. They had to come back to Gombe and start taking the other way through Dukku – Darazo.”
On the effort to divert motorists from being stranded Theman added, “Already there is sufficient information we have also involved our patrol team, so in Gombe those travelling to that side if they are going beyond all the communities they will know there is no road across and just take the other way.”
A motorist, Hassan Kuru, bemoaned the challenges of the Bauchi-Gombe expressway following the recent washout on the road, urging relevant authorities to intervene.
“We are going through serious challenges on this road. We want the Federal Government to do something about this road. This is not the first time that this is happening,” he added.
