NUPRC workers protest poor welfare, intimidation, others in Gombe
Staff of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission in Gombe State, on Tuesday embarked on a protest to press home their demands for urgent actions.
The protest which took place at the NUPRC offices across the country including Gombe Field office located in GRA saw the aggrieved staff carrying placards with various inscription on it.
The NUPRC staff are calling on the Federal Government, National Assembly and management of the petroleum sector to urgently address their demands and challenges which they said include “staff welfare, medical retainership, hostile policies, intimidation of staff, hiring of consultants to do their jobs, contract nepotism, outrageous legal fees among others.”
While expressing their displeasure with the challenges confronting the staff, the branch chairman of NUPRC Engr. Okey Chukwu Anya, in an interview with newsmen said from January this year they have been agitating and engaging with the management on the major challenges but the Authority concerned are paying deaf ears to their plights.
“We lack conducive working environment in line with International Labour Organisation prescription and working tools are hampering our productivity,” the Chairman said.
He added that staff have been forced to use their money to get working tools.
