The Osogbo Book Club, a distinguished literary community founded in 2012 under the auspices of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers, has announced the establishment of an annual lecture series dedicated to the memory of the late Dr Remi Adedokun.

This monumental initiative pays tribute to the remarkable legacy of Dr Adedokun, a multifaceted luminary whose contributions to literature, education, and the arts have left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s cultural landscape.

In a statement by the President of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW), Wole Adedoyin said, Dr Remi Ademola Adedokun, was not just a scholar; he was a trailblazer in the realms of academia, theater administration, and creative expression. His accomplishments encompassed a prolific repertoire of television and radio plays, including notable works such as “The Daughters of the Skies,” “One Step to Paradise,” and “The Goddess Called Woman,” a captivating volume of poetry that resonates with readers to this day.

Furthermore, his literary output extended to invaluable educational resources such as “Theater Production Handbook,” “Arts Administration in Contemporary Nigeria,” and “Community Theater Practice in Nigeria,” serving as vital references for students across universities.

Dr Adedokun’s enduring commitment to nurturing young literary talents played a pivotal role in the foundation of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers. His visionary leadership translated into the hosting and sponsorship of numerous workshops and literary events that have fortified the literary landscape of Nigeria.

Moreover, his generosity extended to the provision of his residence on Ebrohime Street at the University of Ibadan, which served as the National Secretariat of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers.

“The Remi Adedokun Memorial Lecture stands as a befitting tribute to his remarkable legacy. This lecture series not only commemorates his immeasurable contributions but also serves as an embodiment of the ideals he championed throughout his life. It adds another layer of depth to the literary discourse within Nigeria and beyond, fostering intellectual exploration and meaningful dialogue.

“This remarkable endeavour complements the Busari Agbolade Memorial Lecture organised by the Ibadan Book Club, yet another brainchild of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers. Together, these memorial lectures epitomise the Society’s dedication to honoring its visionary pioneers while fostering a dynamic space for the convergence of literary minds and the celebration of diverse creative expressions.

“The Remi Adedokun Memorial Lecture will be featuring distinguished speakers, thought-provoking discussions, and a platform for the exchange of innovative ideas. The Osogbo Book Club extends an open invitation to all literature enthusiasts, academics, artists, and individuals with an appreciation for cultural enrichment to join in this seminal event.

“For further information, inquiries, and event updates, please contact Wole Adedoyin via 08072673852,” Adedoyin added.
