CGN hails Tinubu’s appointment of Christian Communications Minister

The Computer Guild of Nigeria has lauded President Bola Tinubu for his recent appointment of Olatubosun Tijani, as the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy for the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
According to CGN, this landmark decision showcases a commitment to religious inclusivity and diversity within the country’s leadership.
In a statement issued by the President of the CGN, Wole Adedoyin, he said Tinubu demonstrated his dedication to promoting diversity by appointing Tijani, “a Christian, to head the Ministry of Communications. This decision resonates positively with the CGN and reflects a significant stride towards fostering unity and representation across religious lines.
“As the national association of technology professionals, the CGN has consistently advocated for diversity in leadership roles, particularly within the technology and communications sectors. The CGN acknowledges President Tinubu’s responsiveness to this call and commends his proactive approach to creating a balanced and inclusive cabinet,” the statement partly read.
Recall that in a prior statement, the CGN urged Tinubu to consider appointing a Christian Communications Minister to enhance religious diversity and representation in his administration, adding that “This call arose from a noticeable pattern during the previous administration, where both Communications Ministers were of the Islamic faith.”
Adedoyin, expressed the organisation’s appreciation for President Tinubu’s consideration of their appeal, highlighting the importance of religious harmony and representation in leadership positions, especially within sectors as crucial as communications, innovation, and digital economy.
He added, “The CGN acknowledged the role of Barrister Adebayo Shittu, and Professor Isa Pantami, the previous Communications Ministers, for their contributions to the nation’s technology landscape. However, the appointment of Olatubosun Tijani emphasises the administration’s commitment to an all-encompassing leadership that mirrors Nigeria’s diverse populace.
“President Tinubu’s choice of Olatubosun Tijani underscores the significance of bridging religious divides and fostering mutual understanding among Nigeria’s citizens. The CGN believes that this appointment will inspire further unity, collaboration, and innovation within the technology and communications sectors.
