RE: Cost of governance, palliatives should be based on BVN, voters registration units nationwide and other national register
By Ibrahim Tal
Since the assumption of office on May 29, 2023 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Vice President Kashim Shettima, some section of Nigerians have been clamouring for the reduction in cost of governance.
However, these people currently criticising the current cabinet seems to have lost touch with the reality on ground, How? You may want to ask, because there are so many issues that needs urgent attention than the talks of over bloated cost of governance.
Nigeria has an estimated population of over 200 million people, a doctor is assigned to attend to more than 1000 patients a day, a lecturer in our federal and state tertiary institution is assigned to teach General Studies GST/GENS, Entrepreneurship EST, and other subjects to over 1000 students in a 150 capacity lecture theatre, a lecturer teaches more than 2 subjects and yet the rate of unemployment is soaring high.
This is not even the crux of the matter, some person’s in the public, private and global practice service corruption year on year YOY, from the least to the last, through budget padding, sales of employment, cutting corners, disregard for constituted authority, amongst all, sharp practices despite the laws of the land who are still using outdated laws and interpretations to punish culprits.
If the recent palliatives provided by the Jagaban/Shettima led government to states are anything to go by, the palliatives should have been distributed through polling units nationwide and 3 days be declared as public holiday to enable residents to provide there BVN amongst other combined national register, the palliatives can be used to provide succour to those things that make the poor not to breathe, in essence cutting cost of governance should have taken shape like this for the good of the masses.
Also, Three ministerial nomination from all three senatorial districts would have been the best global best practice and model for inclusivity in the country for peace, unity and tranquility to reign in Nigeria.
Cost of governance should include every single Nigerian.
