Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has distributed palliatives to cushion the effect of global economic meltdown and oil subsidy removal in Kaltungo and Shongom Local Government Areas.

The exercise was in continuation of the gesture of the Government targetting about 30,000 vulnerable families across the state.

Represented by his Deputy Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, the Governor performed the distribution of the items comprising food and non food items simultaneously in Headquarters of Kaltungo Local Government Area and Boh, in Shongom Local Government Area.

 

He restated the commitment of the administration to the welfare of the people in the state, assuring that more interventions will be made available to the people when the resources accuable to the state improves.

The Governor tasked the members of the relevant committees at all levels to ensure fairness in the distribution so that those who are much vulnerable would benefit from the gesture.

He said, “Glory be to God Almighty for granting us the privilege to witness this important program of distribution of palliatives to the vulnerable in the Society. Let me highlight on the fact that this phenomena is not caused by the APC administration but a problem affecting everywhere in the world. Having faced with this problem, the Governor being so sympathetic to the cause of the people has decided to promptly intervene to lessen their pains.

“There is this insinuations all over the place that made people to erroneously belief that this is federal government’s interventions but, it is not. Even though it is being circulated that the federal government is giving state governments 5 billion each for interventions. We have not seen it yet.”

Addressing the beneficiaries, the Deputy Governor enjoined them to make judicious use of the items and assist those who did not get but to avoid selling them.

The Chairman State Steering Committee for the distribution of Palliatives and Executive Secretary State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Alhaji Abdullahi Haruna Abdullahi, informed the gathering that each polling unit in the state shall have ten people to benefit, and each beneficiary shall go home with 2 bags of fertilizer, 1 carton of spaghetti, 2 liters of Agro-chemicals and a bag of rice(5kg).

Addressing the people in Kaltungo he said a total number of Two Thousand Four Hundred and Seventy people shall benefit and in Shongom he said said One Thousand Two Hundred and Twenty shall benefit.

He appreciated the confidence reposed in them by the Governor and assured of fairness in the distribution of the palliatives to justify the confidence reposed in them.

While in Kaltungo, the Chairman All Progressive Congress, Mr. Ayuba Hassan and Caretaker Chairman Kaltungo Local Government Council, Alh. Faruk Aliyu appreciated the gesture of the Governor and concern shown to the people in the local Government.

They said, the Government has shown great love by upgrading the General Hospital, construction of township roads and bringing a lot of interventions to the area, calling on their people to reciprocate the gesture by supporting the policies and Programs of the Governor.

The Mai Kaltungo Alh. Saleh Mohammed represented by the District Head of Kaltungo Town Alh. Ibrahim Ahmed expressed gratitude to the Governor, His Deputy and the Secretary to the State Government among others for taking the bold step towards providing relief to the people in the state including his domain, praying God to reward their efforts.

In Shongom the APC Chairman, and the Caretaker Council Chairman, Mr Yohanna Nahari, thanked the governor for the show of love to the people by providing them succour.

Nahari assured of ensuring that the palliatives reach those that are meant for and called on the people of Shongom to behave themselves so that others do not get double at the expense of others, adding that behaving well shall attract more interventions to the area.

The District Head of Boh Mr Dahiru Alfayo represented by District Head of Gwandum, Yahaya Hassan, expressed happiness over the interventions made to the people by the Governor praying God to reward the Government.

The beneficiaries expressed their overwhelming joy to the Governor for coming to their rescue, and pledged to continue to pray for him to succeed in leading the states to greater heights.

The Secretary to the State Government Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, acting Head of Civil Service, Alh. Abdullahi Kasimu Ahmed, Permanent Secretaries and members of the palliatives Committee were part of the activities.
