WASHOUTS: FERMA rehabilitates Gombe-Bauchi Expressway

Federal Roads Maintenance Agency has commenced work on addressing washouts that made Gombe-Bauchi expressway unpassable recently.
Disclosing this on Thursday during the supervision visit to the work site, Federal Roads Maintenance Engineer Charles Avishigh, explained that the agency has monitored the challenges faced by motorists which was occasioned by the recent flood.

Our correspondent reports that due to recent downpour many passengers and motorists have been subjected to additional hours following diversions that had an economic tow on residents in the North-East region.
Avishigh stated that the repairs would lessen the challenges of road users, adding that it would have impact on economic activities in the region.
According to him, it was sequel to the directive of the Acting MD/CEO of Federal Roads Maintenance Agency Engr. Godson C. Amos, that succour be given to the users of the road network pending disbursement by the Federal Government to reconstruct the road.
He said, “The current work that is ongoing now is the emergency repairs of collapsed embankment and shoulder between CH.30+576 – CH.30+675. Along Gombe-Bauchi Road, Route No.85 in Gombe state.
“FERMA is restoring all federal roads by way of reconstructing all washouts along federal roads nationwide.”
Avishigh added that similar works are expected along Gombe/Biu road, “by restoring the critically failed sections of the road to ensure that it remains motorable. Also observed are Gombe/Potiskum road, Gombe/Numan road, Billiri/Filiya roads expected to be intervened on within the field programme. The FERMA Gombe field office is hopeful that when funds are released to FERMA; they will tackle the other federal roads especially Gombe -Biu Road,” Avishigh added.
