Suspected bandits have attacked a Kulben community, village within Kombun district in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing 10 people and leaving several others injured.
A resident who was identified as Moses Fwan, disclosed that the attack happened at about 10pm and so many lives and property were destroyed.
“Armed Fulani militia group attacked our community at about 10pm and killed 10 people. They also injured many others and destroyed our properties and houses before they fled,” he said
Fwan further noted the sad occurrence had thrown the community into mourning, adding that “presently, our people are mourning the gruesome murder of our kinsmen and arrangement is ongoing to conduct mass burial for the victims.”
The Chairman of Mwaghavul Development Association in Kombun district also confirmed that the information has reached him and he is going to the village to share in their ordeal.
The Military Special Task Force in charge of maintaining peace in the state, the Media Officer, Captain Oya James when contacted denied having any knowledge of the attack.
However, he gave an assurance that they are going to investigate the matter and take necessary actions.
The state Police Command, represented by the spokesman Alfred Alabo, condemned the attack and called it an act of cowardice. He also said that security operatives have already been deployed to the affected community.
In his statement, Alabo said “the police are working with other security agents to keep law and order in the society although we cannot be everywhere. Those attacking vulnerable communities and killing innocent people are simply cowards, that is why we continually appeal to the public to provide us with relevant information to be able to act quickly and take action.”
