Ministry leads sanitation operation in Jalingo

The Taraba State Ministry of Waste Management and Resources Innovation led by the Commissioner, Hon. Shonzen James Bernard, together with the “Keep Taraba Clean” initiative Co-ordinator Hon. Illiya Kefas, and other management staff executed a comprehensive and transformative sanitation exercise.
Our correspondent gathered that this was in a bid to show their commitment towards environmental cleanliness and optimisation of resources.
The team embarked on a city-wide supervision exercise to identify areas that engage in improper discarding of waste.
After the exercise, the ministry had discussions on how they can further ensure cleanliness in the state. The primary objective is the efficient evacuation of waste to a designated location which will serve as a permanent dumping site outside the town.
This is strategic because it will alleviate the burden of waste within the city and create innovative ways this waste can be transformed into valuable resources.
There was also an awareness session aimed at educating people on the benefits of a healthy environment, improved health system and the conservation of natural resources.
The Commissioner in his speech said “the tour and assessment was necessary for us to be able to determine our next line of action in achieving a cleaner Taraba in the area of waste collection, disposal and recycling. I call on Tarabans to support and cooperate with the government in achieving this great vision by imbibing proper waste disposal habits and using only government approved and demarcated dump sites.”
