A Public Finance Management Consultant, Dr Chiwuike Uba, has advised the Adamawa Government to ensure accurate and consistent revenue data management for improved efficiency.
Uba made the call while speaking at a training programme for staff of the Adamawa State Internal Revenue Service on Tuesday in Yola.
Uba, at the training organised by the United States Agency for International Development Agency (USAID), stated that data accuracy was crucial for effective revenue management.
He said that a comprehensive system of tax payer identification and registration was necessary for any tax system to be effective.
The financial consultant urged the Adamawa State Internal Revenue Service to create and maintain a complete database of registered businesses.
Uba also urged the state government to regularly sensitise tax payers to the need to get registered.
The public finance expert urged the participants to take the training seriously in the interest of effective internal revenue service.
Mr Mathias Yake, a Conflict Specialist, urged the participants to take steps towards understanding the dynamics of taxation and its import on internal revenue generation.
He urged the state government to always implement clearcut revenue policy initiatives to avoid misunderstanding and suspicion.
”You should not create room for suspicion, ensure that your customer care unit is super-active and responsive,” he said.
Mr Salihu Sabana, the Director, Tax Collection and Accounting, Adamawa State Internal Revenue Service, commended USAID for the training.
He described the training as well-timed and a good omen, adding that it would have positive effect on internal revenue generation in the state.
