Female student who threw newborn from window, takes treatment under Gombe police custody
Gombe State Police command on Sunday confirmed it has received formal complaint from Gombe State University management over a 400 level student of Public Administration who threw her baby from the hostel window after self delivery.
Our correspondent had reported how the news went viral about a 23-year-old Rahab, who allegedly threw her newborn through a three-storey window on Saturday after delivery in the toilet.
Confirming this in an interview with our correspondent, Public Relations Officer of the command ASP Mahid Abubakar, said the management of the school officially launched a complaint to the command around 1:30pm on Sunday, adding that Rahab had commenced treatment.
The PRO noted that investigation would commence after she recuperates from the delivery process.
Abubakar said, “Today, around 1:30pm we received formal complaint from the university Chief Security Officer that the incident had taken place in the university. Because of this report police has officially taken over the case to investigate the case where a 23-year-old, from Public Administration department, in 400 level is involved. She is presently receiving treatment under police custody, once she is with us we will be able to gather more fact we will communicate via press briefing.”
Asked what the reason for the disposal of the newborn was Abubakar said, “Not for now that will be part of our investigation. Even though it was reported late to the police, the public should endeavour to report timely to the police events as it happens.”
