Oversight: Gombe Gov receives Reps Committee on TETFund projects

Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has tasked heads of tertiary institutions in the state to be factual in their interactions with House of Representatives Ad-hoc committee investigating monies expended by TETFund in institutions of higher learning across the state.

Yahaya gave this indication when he granted audience to members of the committee led by its chairman Honourable Unyime Idem, at the Government House.

Represented by the Secretary to Government of the State, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, the Governor underscored the importance of the constitutional provision which gives backing to legislators to carry out oversight function with a view to deepening transparency and accountability within the system.
The Governor observed that any investigation such as the one been carried out by the House of Representatives Ad-hoc committee on TETFund projects is not aimed at witch-hunting anyone but a concerted effort towards system strengthening for the good of all.
He appreciated the committee members for deeming it necessary to pay him a courtesy visit, saying his administration places premium on transparent and accountable which always gives value for money.
Yahaya used the visit to intimate the committee members of his administration’s commitment to turn the state into an industrial hub through the construction of a multi-billion naira industrial park design to jump the social and economic potentials of the state.
Earlier speaking, the Chairman House of Representatives Ad-hoc committee on TETfund projects Idem, said the committee visited the state in fulfilment of sections 88 and 89 which empowers them to carry out oversight on government institutions and non government institutions alike especially those in receipt of government funding.
He said the committee has been commissioned by the House of Representatives to investigate the alleged abuse of 2.3 trillion naira expended by TETfund on institutions of higher learning across the country.
The chairman of the committee explained “that the investigation is a national assignment aimed at putting side by side the amount spent and the project on ground.”
Idem used to visit to pay tribute to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya over the plethora of projects such as road infrastructures in the state capital.
“The roads are clean and the environment is serene, this speaks of the kind of people’s oriented government we have here in Gombe,” he said.
….receives USAID ready to learn project team
In a related development, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has welcomed “USAID Ready to Learn project” set to commence operation soon in the state.
The Governor represented by the SGS made this position known when he received a delegation from USAID led by Hajiya Nafisa Ado.
The USAID Ready to Learn project is an initiative predicated on the adoption of local language to enhance teaching and learning at the basic level.
