Protesters on rampage in FTH Gombe, over mutilation of deceased body parts
Some protesters on Tuesday, rampaged Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe over alleged mutilation of a deceased identified as Halima Ibrahim.
Ibrahim based on the obituary obtained by our correspondent was aged 61 and was a causal staff of Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Gombe State.
Speaking, on behalf of the family, deceased daughter Naomi Ibrahim, said her mother passed on last Friday at FTH, disclosing that they discovered the dismemberment of the corpse before the burial.

According to her, those that came to claim the corpse for burial were not permitted to check it before moving it to for internment, adding that it was at her insistence that the family discovered that late Ibrahim has missing eye.
She said, “When my mother passed on she was complete, all her body part remained intact. Today (Tuesday) is her burial, only for those that came to take her corpse from the morgue for internment to be prevented from checking it.
“When they got to the place for burial I requested as family members to be allowed to see her for the last time it was then I discovered her body part was missing. I know of the left eye but I can’t confirm the private part.”
Lamenting the situation, the deceased daughter urged government to ensure that the culprits are prosecuted adding “I want government to ensure that they deal decisively with this issue. It must have been a reoccurring situation in this mortuary, but for us we want justice.”
Reacting to the protest, Chief Medical Director of FTH Yusuf Abdullahi, who was represented by Professor Adamu Bojulde, Deputy Chairman Medical Advisory committee, called for calm.

He noted that management has mandated pathologists to conduct autopsy on the deceased remains to determine the authenticity of the matter.
“We need an average of three hours for our pathologists to conduct autopsy on the deceased. The result would be made available to the family, the people should be patient,” Abdullahi said.
On his part, Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Gombe chapter Joseph Shinga, called for calm as authorities unravel the cause for the alleged dismemberment of the deceased body parts.

Some protesters who spoke off record with PERISCOPE NIGERIA said there have been wild complaints of dismemberment of deceaseds’ bodies by ritualists at the FTH morgue, calling for an end to the act which they described as disrespect to the dead.
They urged government, security agencies and hospital authorities to put a stop to the sad occurrence.
