Gombe State Government on Monday, appealed to the Federal Government for compensation or replacement of its National Youth Service Corps permanent orientation camp housing the Operation Safe Corridor in Malam Sidi, Kwami Local Government Area.

The Secretary to Government of the State, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, made the appeal when he received on behalf of Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, the Chief Executive Officer and Editor in Chief of Spokesman Newspaper Emeka Nwankpa, on a working visit to Operation Save Corridor facility.

Njodi, explained that the Yahaya’s administration has made several engagement with the Federal Government on the matter without significant progress, “as only one tenth of the state government’s request was received,” he said explaining that students of Secondary schools have to be displaced frequently to provide space for National Youth Service Corps, Orientation.
He noted that while the State Government is committed to restoration of peace and progress in the North East it is also mindful of the need for the Federal Government to consider replacing the NYSC Orientation Camp.
While appreciating the season journalist and Publisher for his resolve in partnering with the Gombe State, in showcasing it’s developmental strides to world, Njodi, however, challenge him to constructively criticise the performance of the Inuwa Yahaya administration.
He said, “State government remains open and accessible to clarify or explain issues pertaining it’s governance processes in line with the social contract it entered with the people of the state.”
The SGS also welcomed the idea of the Newspaper Chief Executive opening an office in the State saying government has made establishment of businesses much easier in it’s quest to attract both local and foreign investors to the state.
Speaking earlier, Nwankpa had earlier informed the SGS that his visit to the Government House was on the recommendation of the Operation Safe Corridor Commandant in view of the enormous support of the State government’s to the programme.
He also expressed desire to partner with the Gombe Government in promoting and projecting the huge achievements of the Inuwa Yahaya administration as well establish an operational office in the state.
