Taraba State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Jalingo, on Saturday, upheld the election of Governor Agbu Kefas of the Peoples Democratic Party, as the duly elected governor of the state.
The three-man panel headed by Justice G.A Sunmonu, dismissed the petition jointly filed by the New Nigerian Peoples Party, and its governorship candidate, Professor Sani Yahaya for lack of merit.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that the NNPP, and its governorship candidate in the March governorship election, had filed a petition before the election petition Tribunal, seeking the cancellation of the march governorship election result in Taraba, alleging that the exercise was characterised by irregularities and non compliance with the 2022 electoral act.
However, the panel of Justice unanimously ruled that the NNPP petition and its governorship candidate lacked constitutional merit, and ruled that the petitioners failed to justify their petition.
Reacting to the judgement, the Deputy Governor, Ali Aminu Alkali, described the judgement as an affirmation of the people’s choice.
Alkali called on the opposition to join governor Kefas in his strive to transform Taraba state.
Our correspondent also reports that the NNPP lawyers refused granting audience to journalists and left the court premises in anger.
