Two weeks ultimatum: FMC Keffi plans mass burial, should families fail to claim nine corpses
The Federal Medical Centre Keffi, Nasarawa State, has issued a two-week ultimatum for the claiming of nine corpses which had been lying in its mortuary for a long period of time, “or will be left with no other option than to give the copses a mass burial,” the Centre said.
According to a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the medical centre, Esther Bature, which was made available to PERISCOPE NIGERIA on Saturday, the decision was to decongest the facility.
Bature said the decision by the management of the medical centre to issue the deadline is due to the fact that some of the corpse were brought to the hospital in the year 2021 and others in 2022, thereby exceeding the time limit of 6 months permitted by law.
“Consequently, members of the public who lost their loved ones during the stated period indicated herein, may please, visit the hospital’s morgue for possible identification and claim,” she added.
The Public Relations Officer of the hospital therefore, reiterated that at the expiration of the two weeks deadline starting from Friday, September 22, 2023, the medical centre will be left with no other option than to give the nine corpses a mass burial.
