Adamawa, ICRC train health personnel to implement ALMANACH in five states
The Adamawa Primary Health Care Development Agency in collaboration with International Committee for Red Cross, has trained 20 officials to implement Algorism for the Management of Acute Childhood Illness in Kano, Kaduna, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe States.
Speaking at the training in Yola on Thursday, Dr Suleiman Bashir, Executive Chairman of the agency said the Adamawa was the first state in the country that implemented ALMANACH in 12 health facilities of two Local Government Areas and gradually implemented in 420 health facilities across 21 LGAs of the state.
He said that ALMANACH has yielded positive results in providing quality health care services for children under the age of five.
He said using ALMANACH has improved the quality of consultation and the holistic nature of diagnosis.
“The training is a fulfilment of the National Council of Health where Adamawa presented a project for the management of childhood illness ALMANACH and five states declared interest.
“At the end it was adopted by the Council that digital e-health is a way to go and today we are orienting the teams that will go for the implementation to those states,” he said.
In his address, Dr Ibrahim Sahabo, project manager ALMANACH said that the implementation of ALMANACH started in the state since 2016 and a lot of successes have been recorded.
He further explained that ALMANACH is basically electronically decision support system that emphasise the use of Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI) an e-health initiative.
“This is a protocol for consulting under five children developed by World Health Organisation use by lower level health workers.
“This assist them in in delivering effective treatment develop in to an Algorism running as an application in android device,” he said.
Dr Apollos Nachanuya, who spoke on behalf of the trainers said the training for the implementation to other states is timely going by the high rate of killer diseases among under five children.
He assured their readiness for successful implementation of the training in their respective states of posting.
