Expert tasks executive, legislature on political will to check climate change
By Ibrahim Kado
Mr Micheal David, the Executive Director, Global Initiative for Food Security and Ecosystem Preservation, has tasked the executive and legislative arms of government to demonstrate political will to mitigate the impact of climate change in the state.

David made the call at the two-day workshop for climate change activities on climate lobbying in Yola on Wednesday.
He said one of the things lacking in the fight against climate change is absence of political will not just in Adamawa or Nigeria, but globally.
“And so it is important to let people know the power they have to influence policy and decision making through respectful climate lobbying.
“For policy makers to see the urgent need to make those laws and policies that can help create an enabling environment for climate action in Adamawa and Nigeria as whole,” he urged.
He said Adamawa is vulnerable to climate change impact and appreciated steps taken by state government on indiscriminate felling of trees for charcoal production and waste recycling, among others.
David encouraged the participants to be bold and have confidence in lobbying on issues around climate change.
“Engage with policy makers not for personal benefits but on how to improve Adamawa environmental issues for good health and well being of the general public,” he said.
Earlier, Ms Dorcas Nicanor, the Programme Assistant, African Activities for Climate Justice (AACJ), said that the aim of the training is to equip participants with skills on the need to engage political leaders with ideas to influence their actions on climate change to help people in the communities.
She advised the participants to and apply the knowledge acquired in to practice for positive change in their respective communities.
Dr Ibrahim Umar, the Executive Director, Adamawa Environmental Protection Agency, described the training as timely, going by the challenges of climate negative tendencies in the state and county at large.
He also called on the participants to double their efforts on contributing their own part toward achieving the objective of the training. (NAN)
