Mrs Comfort Amos Mukollo, is aspiring for the position of Zonal Vice President, North-East Zone E.

Mukollo says she is committed to advocating for and empowering women in journalism.

Promoting gender equality: I will work to ensure that women have equal opportunities in the media industry. This includes advocating for more women in leadership positions, promoting gender-sensitive reporting.

Encouraging women’s professional development: I will provide opportunities for women to develop their skills and advance their careers. This includes organising training programs, mentorship schemes, and networking events.

Addressing the safety of women journalists: I will prioritise the safety and security of women journalists, particularly in conflict zones and areas where women are at risk of violence. This includes providing training on self-defense, safety protocols, and emergency response procedures.

Promoting women’s voices: I will ensure that women’s perspectives and experiences are represented in the media. This includes encouraging women to speak out on issues that affect them, promoting women’s leadership in newsrooms, and challenging gender stereotypes in reporting.

Collaborating with other organisations: I will work with other organisations to address issues affecting women journalists, such as harassment, intimidation, and censorship. This includes partnering with human rights groups, women’s rights organisations such as FIDA, WRAPA and media watchdogs.

Advocating for media freedom: I will defend media freedom and the right to report the truth, particularly in times of crisis and conflict. This includes challenging censorship, promoting press freedom, and defending the rights of journalists to report without fear of retribution.

Encouraging innovation and digital literacy: I will promote innovation and digital literacy among women journalists, particularly in the context of the rapidly changing media landscape. This includes providing training on digital tools, social media, and multimedia storytelling.

Supporting women’s mental health: I will prioritise the mental health and well-being of women journalists, particularly in the context of the high-pressure and often stressful nature of the industry. This includes providing resources and support for self-care, stress management, and mental health issues.

Promoting Zonal Collaboration: I will foster collaboration and networking among women journalists in the region, promoting the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and resources. This includes organising regional conferences, workshops, and training programmes.

Advocating for women’s rights: I will use my platform as the ZVP to advocate for women’s rights and gender equality, both within the media industry and in society at large. This includes promoting women’s leadership, challenging gender stereotypes, and addressing issues.
