No fewer than 67 polling units in Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area have been cancelled by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The cancellation was due to failure to hold the election in the area.
Voters in Ogori -Magongo Local Government Area of Kogi State were not allowed to exercise their franchise at the ongoing governorship election in the state.
Head of Voters Education and Public Enlightenment, Haliru Haruna, however, said investigation is still ongoing.
“We have sent the report to our head office and we are waiting for the final verdict,they are the one with final pronouncement. We will update you as time goes on,” he said
A resident who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity said no INEC officials reported with election materials in any of the polling units in the council area.
He said that election did not hold in Ogori -Magongo because of claims that voting took place over the night of Friday till the early hours of Saturday, which is the official election day.
“The development attracted wild protest from residents. The election here has been cancelled. The protest has made the INEC officials call off their staff. In all polling unit in Ogori/Magongo local government.
“However, filled INEC election result sheets later surfaced in the community.
A man was arrested by residents for dropping the filled election result sheets from one polling unit to another.
“A search on him and his bag led to the discovery if other result sheets and One mullion naira. He has since been handed over to security agents,” the source added.
