Gmbe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, represented by his Deputy, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, the Emir of Gombe Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar lll and other Traditional Rulers from Adamawa and Gombe State have attended the 2023 Menjauli festival of the people of Shelleng Local Government in Adamawa State.

Menjauli festival is an annual festival celebrated by the people of Shelleng to keep alive their abundant cultural potentials as well as showcase them to the world.

In order to make the 2023 event more lively, memorable and with historical value the organisers included the role played by the first Emir of Gombe Buba Yero, who settled in the Ketembere hills before relocating to Sokoto to be under the tutelage of Othman Danfodio who handed him the flag to become the religious leader and Emir of Gombe.

In the line up of activities the dignitaries took off from the palace of Amna Shelleng, Alhaji Abdullahi Isa Dasong, to the Ketembere hills where they observed Dhur( noon) and Asr(Afternoon) prayers before convening at the point where the Late Buba Yero established a madrasah. They were also at the tomb of their late matriarch Zainbu, mother of the Late Islamic Scholar, Buba Yero where they prayed Allah to grant her soul eternal repose in Janna Firdaus.

The governor expressed delight over the historical connection and contiguity between Gombe State and Adamawa State which he said has led to the peace unity and socio-economic and cultural ties existing between the two states.

He said, “the Gombe Emirs palace has had rich historical antecedents well known for royalty and islamic scholarship that has landmark achievements in the history of Gombe State and Nigeria.”

Speaking on the menjauli festival Yahaya commended the Amna Shelleng, and members of his chiefdom for organising the cultural fiesta as a way of preserving and showcasing of their cultural heritage.

He noted the need for communities to look inward into their cultural potentials towards turning it into means of generating income, and job creation for the teaming unemployed youths in the country.

He congratulated the Emir of Gombe, and the entire royal family for tracing their roots, and praying for the repose of the souls of their grand parents.

Speaking at the point where the Late Buba Yero operated a madrasah , Dr Sani Jauro, who is the ‘Danlawan of Gombe described the Emir of Gombe as someone who took after his grandparents and parents in terms of encouraging Islamic and Western education.

He said, “the Emir has been assisting the less privileged children by sponsoring them in schools, the Gombe Emirate will establish an islamic school in the area in honour of their late grand father.”

The Emir of Gombe was presented with a sword and holy Quran.

The Amna Shelleng, Dasong appreciated the governor and the Emir of Gombe as well as all the dignitaries that attended the programme.
