Your Excellency, I trust this message finds you well and will therefore like to commend the Borno state government, under your esteemed leadership, for the commendable efforts in destroying the brothel and enforcing societal value in the community of Maiduguri. The legend gave the order for the demolition of the brothel which is located at the railway staff quarters on 17 October, 2023. However, I would like to draw your attention to a matter that warrants careful consideration.
I respect and salute Professor Babagana Zulum, for a job well done Sir. However destroying the building does not destroy the mindset of the patronisers of the brothel, with the same mentality they will create another avenue to carry out their deeds, such acts must not only be within four corner building that was destroyed, it can be under a tree, underground building etc. For this reason the mindset must destroyed along with the building.
I therefore suggest that sensitisation campaigns should be organized to enlighten the public about the dangers and consequences of the act, source of income should be created for the women who see such acts as a form of livelihood.
Establishing a brothel in the northern part of Nigeria is illegal and against the religious beliefs and values of the community. Governor Zulum has been vocal about his plans to demolish brothels in Maiduguri, which he has said are a breeding ground for crime and corruption. He has argued that the brothels are not only a moral and social problem, but also an economic problem, and that their presence is detrimental to the community.
As the popular saying goes A man that has lost moral sense is like a man in a battle with both of his legs shot off: He has nothing to stand on, morality is what sets a standard structure for a community, trashing these morality is regarded as destruction of the one thing that holds strong.
Governor zulum did what he had to do in order to maintain a society free from sins, the frowned at the act and watched out for the women that were been exploited and treated as sex slaves. It’s inhumane how women are trades for pleasure.
The Governor is setting a good legacy because of the next generation, it would be better if the next generation grow up without knowledge of such sinful acts.
I find it impressive that the governor gave a thought of the brothel as an avenue for the transmission of STDS and other health risk which led to the abolition of such acts,
Imagine a society where you don’t have to worry about what the minors see outside because the corrupt values no longer exist. Proff. Zulum is working towards achieving such a society. This should also serve as a wake up call to all residents in Maiduguri to work together towards creating a better future for ourselves and the generation ahead.
