…laments power challenges,
Inadequate mattresses
The Gombe State Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps Dawut Jidda, on Tuesday appealed to the state government to complete its permanent orientation camp following growing size of corps members deployed to the state.
He made this plea during the swearing in ceremony of no fewer than 1,847, 2023 batch C stream II corps members deployed to the state for orientation course in Amada temporary camp, Gombe State.
Our correspondent reports that the Chief Judge of Gombe State Halima Mohammed, represented by Justice Auwal Haruna, administered the corps members oath of allegiance.
According to Jidda, the number of corps members deployed to the state outweighs the capacity of the temporary orientation camp, decrying the facility deficit in the regimented camp.
Jidda said, “On this note, we once again, wish to humbly crave the indulgence of the government to expedite action on the completion of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp at Boltongo. This is because the number of Corps Members deployed to Gombe State is on a high increase due to the peaceful nature of the State and the facilities at this temporary location are inadequate to fully accommodate the Corps population explosion.”

Lamenting the lack of amenities in Amada temporary camp, Jidda added, “The challenge of water supply to the Camp is also on the high increase due to the dry season and mobility factor. Dilapidated mattresses due to over use, epileptic power supply by JEDs PLC and high escalation in the price of food items. We therefore, kindly solicit Government’s intervention in the augmentation especially in the areas of water supply, light, mattresses and food items in order to give the Corps Members a befitting welcome to Gombe State.”
“We are overwhelmed by your expression of love for the Scheme, the Nigeria youth and humanity at large. May God in His infinite mercy continually uphold you (Yahaya). I wish to also extend our profound gratitude to members of the state Executive Council here present, for the unwavering support enjoyed by the Scheme in the State,” he added.

On his part, Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, who was represented by the Commissioner, Ministry of Youth and Sports Inuwa Ibrahim, urged them to remain focused, adding that the state has the needed resources to make them prosperous.

He said, “The state is rich in abundant human and natural resources, rich cultural heritage with agricultural produce which promotes business and entrepreneurship.”

While harping on the need for unity the governor acknowledged that the corps members had important roles to play adding, “The future of this country lies in your hand as leaders, you have a great role to play in shaping our co-existence.”
