Police have banned the use of Fireworks, Firecrackers or any other explosive device in Kwara state during the forthcoming yuletide, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Victor Olaiya said on Tuesday.
According to a statement signed by Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Kwara Police Command on behalf of the Police Commissioner, “the ban on the use of Fireworks, Firecrackers or any other explosive device is still enforced; therefore the CP has warned person(s) against the use of these dangerous or harmful devices as ‘it can lead to extensive damage to properties, severe injuries or pose as a threat to safety and security of citizens, disturbance of public peace.
“Anyone caught in this act will be made to face the wrath of the law”, he warned.
Olaiya while felicitating with the people of the state on the excitement and passion that accompanied the Christmas and New Year Celebrations urged them to maintain law and order in the state during the celebration.
“As we approach the forthcoming festivities in Kwara State, The Commissioner of Police, CP VICTOR OLAIYA, psc(+) extends his warm season greetings to the citizens of the state. The Command understands the excitement and passion that accompanies these celebrations.
“However, it is imperative to maintain law and order; respecting the rights and well being of others in our community and urged citizens of the State to refrain from acts that may disrupt the peace and tranquility within the neighborhood.”
“The CP further enjoined citizens to be law-abiding, shunning all forms of criminal acts as he has ordered that all Area Commanders, Divisional Police officers, and Heads of Tactical Units in the command to provide maximum security within their area of responsibility before, during and after the yuletide.”
The CP also wishes everyone a joyous Christmas and a blissful New Year and advised the people that they can celebrate responsibly together with their loved ones and make this festive season a memorable and safe experience for all.
