No fewer than 200 women and girls kidnapped victims of Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East have received a total of N30 million from German-based Newspaper, Dei Zeit and management.
Speaking during the disbursement in Yola on Saturday, Rev. Stephen Mamza, Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese said that each victim was entitled to N150, 000.
The victims were drawn from Madigali, Mubi and Michika Local Government Areas of Adamawa State.
Mamza, a former official of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Adamawa, noted that the victims were receiving such support for the fourth time.
According to him, the gesture is as a result of investigative reporting by a reporter who came to the country in 2014 during the Boko Haram insurgency.
“The reporter saw things for himself; when he returned to his country, he decided to be sending some amount from his savings and contribution from the management to the kidnapped victims”, he said.
The clergyman urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the money for socioeconomic development of their respective families and communities.
He also urged the beneficiaries to pray for the donor and the officials to succeed in life.
He however, called on husbands and relatives of beneficiaries to understand that the money was strictly for the victims hence, the need to allow them to utilise it judiciously.
Alhaji Gambo Jika, Chairman, Muslim Council, Adamawa chapter also advised beneficiaries who were into business to improve on their enterprise while those who do not have should think on what to start.
He said that the beneficiaries should double their efforts for the peace and development in the country.
“It is as a result of not having peace that you experienced the challenges of insurgency, so, continue to leave in peace with one another.
“And pray for God to increase the wealth of the donors”, he added.
Jika, however, called on individuals and groups in the country to emulate the donors to alleviate the suffering of the less privilege persons.
Also, Mrs Josephine Williams, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries appreciated the donors for their gesture and gave the assurance that they would make judicious use of the funds.
She also prayed for God to bless the donors with good health and more wealth.
