Gombe State gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress Nafiu Bala, on Sunday said the party has approached the Supreme Court after the Court of Appeal affirmed the victory of Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, in Abuja.

Bala is contesting the eligibility of Yahaya’s deputy in the 2023 general election Manassah Jatau.
The case was filed on December 15, 2023, by H.N Nwoye & Co and Kachala law chambers at N 1 million based on available receipt.
According to court records obtained by our correspondent which was received by the Supreme Court on December 19, the case is between the ADC, its candidate Bala, against Yahaya, Jatau and Independent National Electoral Commission.

He said, “Already I have filed an appeal before the Supreme Court after Court of Appeal judgement.”
Asked what the ground for the appeal at the apex court was he added, “before the Supreme Court I rejected the outcome of the Court of Appeal’s judgement affirming the election of Governor Muhammadu Yahaya against my prayers.”

He continued saying “We are in the Supreme Court to nullify and order fresh election. I challenged the qualifications of the Deputy Governor who has a joint ticket with Inuwa Yahaya, because the electoral act is very clear as I told the court that the governor’s deputy is not qualified to contest the election.”
