The Kano State Government has agreed to commence payment of N20,000 as wage award to the State and local government workers in the state for six months beginning from December, 2023.
Similarly, the government has also agreed to pay N15, 000 to pensioners for the period of three months starting from December, 2023.
The wage award is a support aimed at minimising the hardship brought about by the fuel subsidy removal in the country.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Kabiru Inuwa made the disclosure in an interview with The Punch on Tuesday night.
He said the agreement was reached after the State Government and representatives of the labour signed an agreement on Tuesday following a meeting between two parties.
“The agreement came after serious discussions with the Committee set up by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on the issue.
“The agreement was signed between the State Government and Representatives of the labour comprising Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress and Joint Public Service Negotiation Council.
“The Government shall also ensure the prompt disbursement of the wage award to all eligible civil servants and pensioners in the state,” he said.
He, however, thanked the state government and chairman of the Committee, Baffa Sani Gaya, Special Adviser on labour matters as well as Labour leaders involved for arriving at the decision.
Recall that the State NLC chapter had written to the State government to ensure immediate implementation of the wage award or risk strike action
