…Gombe govt commits to collaborate with development partners
Gombe State Government says it will collaborate with any development partner that means well for the state.
The commissioner for Education Dr Aishatu Umar Maigari, stated this on Monday, while declaring open a free cervical cancer screening exercise at the Antenatal clinic of the Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe.
Maigari, said the efforts put in place by the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, Gombe State chapter is in line with the state government policies in the Health sector and will continue in that regard to provide accessible and free health care services to the citizenry.


The Commissioner said her ministry will look at the possibility of partnering with the association in the area of providing adequate sensitisation for school age female students in public schools on the menace of cervical cancer and possible remedies to drastically reduce the cases in Gombe State.
She commended the initiatives and urged them to maintain the tempo.
Earlier, the state president of the Association Dr Hajara Aminu Galadima, said the association in collaboration with Mercy Corps, a non-governmental organisation will conduct a free cervical cancer screening exercise for 50 women in the state to ascertain their status and provide necessary medical expertise.
Galadima said this is part of the celebration of their monthly cervical cancer awareness campaign in the state.
Also speaking, the communication officer of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for learning and Empowerment AGILE Project in the state Saidu Bappa Malala, expressed appreciation to the organisers of the exercise in creating the needed awareness on cervical cancer and assured of the Agile project’s readiness to partner with them on Adolescent Girls in public schools.
Some beneficiaries who pleaded for anonymity, commended the foresight of the association and called on other organisations to emulate them.
